Like the rest of the US
Virgin Islands, St. Croix is a top destination for snorkelers. St.
Croix is the largest of the three US Virgin Islands – and the
least-visited by tourists. Buck Island Reef National Monument is the
crown jewel of St. Croix, with 700 acres of pristine Caribbean Sea
populated by more than 90 species of fish and many varieties of coral.
Buck Island, just two miles off the coast of Christiansted features
spectacular fire coral teeming with brightly colored tropical fish.
Turtle Beach, on the western side of Buck Island, provides a scenic
vista, and the underwater trails off the coast are among the top
St. Croix snorkeling attractions in the area. No visit to St. Croix would be
complete without a visit to Buck Island. Cane Bay, on the northern shore
of St. Croix, is a great snorkeling destination. You’ll encounter
interesting sea life such as porcupine fish, tiger tail sea cucumbers
and yellow star sponges as well as colorful coral gardens.
