Phuket, the
largest island in Thailand, is situated in the warm tropical waters of
the Andaman Sea. The clear, calm waters and abundance of interesting
marine life make Phuket a great snorkeling destination. You can snorkel
year-round in Phuket, but the best time of year is November-April, when
the water is at its calmest.
Be aware that
undertow and riptides can be dangerous along the west coast of Phuket –
especially from May-October. Kata Beach is a great spot for snorkeling
on Phuket, especially the coral reef formations at the north end of the
bay. Islands near Phuket like Coral Racha and Khai Nok are great for
snorkeling. A bit further away (but well worth visiting) are the Phi Phi
Islands and the Similan Islands. You’ll find great snorkeling adventures
in and around Phuket.
