1,000 Islands Snorkeling
Cape Vincent, New York state. The St. Lawrence Seaway and 1,000 Islands region has a variety of
fish and wrecks that allow snorkelers to get an up close view of the underwater world. A zebra mussel infestation has made the water very
clear. Not far from the boat launch in Cape Vincent, NY is a sunken barge - over 80 feet long. The barge sunk in 1914, but was built in 1862. Much of the barge has disintegrated, but the main ribs are still visible, and house many fish - including walleye, yellow perch, white
perch, goby, long nose carp, sheepshead (freshwater drum) and small mouth bass.
