The last few times we’ve been snorkeling, we’ve thought about bringing a camera. We used to have a simple point and shoot that we liked, but we lost that in an unfortunate catamaran incident a few years ago (don’t ask). We also tested an Olympus that we liked. Now we’re thinking about getting a new camera of our own.
There are so many options out there, from disposables to point and shoots to waterproof housing for traditional cameras.
We’re going to have to do some research. Will advise.
The Olympus booth featured their line of underwater cameras – including these 3 which are perfect for snorkelers.
Found a cool blog post about a Big Island Snorkeling trip taken right from shore near Kona.
The author of the post (Angela) uses the Olympus 850 underwater snorkeling camera which is similar to the 770SW that I use. Here is a good video she put together – you’ll see some nice underwater footage from Hawaii here.
Canon just announced a brand new line of Cameras that includes an impressive looking underwater camera – the Canon D10. The camera features 12.1 Megapixels, is waterproof to 33 feet and drop proof from 4 feet and has a 3x optical zoom. Overall, it seems similar to the Olympus 770SW that we reviewed last year.
The camera will sell for about $329 and will be available in May.
